Judy’s magic cast on

Hi everyone. I’m doing two at a time socks using Judy’s magic cast on. I’ve watched so many videos and I cannot figure out why after I’ve cast on and done a round my working yarn is on the bottom. I saw another post on this and I still cannot figure it out.

My favorite provisional cast on.
What side, thumb or fingers, is your working yarn when you start?

Can you post a picture of your cast on before and after your first round?

I think I understand it now. It’s just off till the sock pouch forms. It seems good now. They look like socks.

Looking good

Hi! I just started that same project! Couple of things to note: make sure you’re turning your work clockwise (at least for the set up rows) and, mmmm, other wee surprises I found are in toe-up, those first few rounds—say five—seem weird because you’re actually making a sort of canoe-shaped piece. It’s not flat. It’s deceiving. I’m finished my first pair of two-at-a-time, toe ups and used that same magic cast on. Persevere. Let me know if I can help more. But that clockwise turn thing made the difference to my many starts on this technique. Best book describing this technique ever is the Melissa Morgan Oakes. Skip the Wendy Johnson until after you’ve mastered it. (The latter has about ZERO usable explanation or instruction whilst the former is very very good, instructionally. Very detailed step-by-step w pics.

Thank you! I have MMOs books and Wendy’s books. I’m using knit freedoms pattern and it’s going well. Thank you for the tips! Still on the foot so we will see how the heel goes. :slightly_smiling_face:
