Is it possible to join two different yarn skeins together making them look seamless? I wonder if it’s possible because I see spinners selling these really big yarn skeins.
The yarns could be spun together rather than holding the 2 strands together as you knit.
@Shintoga @mullerslanefarm @FluffyYarn what do you recommend?
I think you’re talking about length of the skein and how to join two skeins to make a larger skein?
If so, you’re equipment (wheel, spinner, drop spindle) would need the bobbin capacity to hold the length you need.
My last spin was 4 oz (113 grams) Merino top on an e-spinner (EEW 6.0) . I spun 2 bobbins of 2 oz each about 25 WPI (wraps per inch), then plyed them together. There was just over 500 yards, pre wet finished. The yarn floofed after wet finishing so they’re about 11-12 WPI now. I haven’t measured to final length after wet finishing.
Before I got the e-spinner with huge bobbins, I would spin the singles on the Kromski Sonata, filling the bobbins 3/4 full, then ply on the Ashford Traveller that was equipped with a Jumbo flyer/bobbin combination.
Alternately, you could do a Russian join to join 2 skeins together. This can be tricky since every skein is unique and you might have a noticeable difference between the 2 skeins.
Happy Spinning!
