I know how to join with DPNs, but, I was wondering, is there a way to join and not have a small hole in the center? I am not good with sewing, and I am knitting some slippers- they are toe up, and have a small hole- Is there a way I can avoid the hole?If I could a small enough circular, I would just use that, and not have a hole!
Could you make a picture of where you get the hole?
These are the slippers (I haven’t made mine yet) but see the hole at the toe?

Knowing my kid, that hole would be huge in no time, so the best solution would be to just make sure there is no hole!
This cast on (Emily Ocker’s cast on) may help with the small hole.
What @salmonmac posted is a good way to do the beginning unless you use something like Turkish cast on to get a more oval beginning.
When thinking about this I came up with a new (and maybe easier) way that I have not tested yet: Do a normal long tail cast on. Pull the tail through all stitches, as when putting in a “lifeline”. Knit in the round and after tighten the tail to close the hole. It might end up looking good, but as I said, I have not tested it.
When “joining a round” I sometimes “Twist” the first and last stitches (move last stitch on first needle to first place on second needle, and first stitch on second needle to last place on first needle).or I cast on an extra stitch then pass the first stitch over the last stitch to start the round.
However, I can recommend this article on Knitty, Tip Top Toes by Wendy D. Johnson, she gives some interesting options for casting on Toe Up Socks https://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter02/FEATtiptoptoes.html
After searching for a long time, I have finally found a slipper pattern that is truly seamless, and although the pattern/video are in Russian, there are English instructions and I think I can do it! Thanks to Kathryn Mushyn for the pattern! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iorcSCGwdDw&feature=emb_err_woyt
