Joining stitches to knit in the round

Hi! I’m a novice knitter on Maui which means there are no real yarn stores to go to for help :frowning:
That being said, I’m knitting my 3 month old daughter bell bottoms using this pattern http://alison.knitsmiths.us/pattern_baby_bell_bottoms.html
before our trip to the mainland. I’m not sure how to start working the hips though. Can I just leave the second leg on my circular needles and feed the first leg back on them? Once I do that do I just knit/purl all the way around as if there was no separation?

Mahalo

that sounds right to me! but now you won’t have to do any purl stitches if i’m reading it correctly, as you’ll be knitting in the round and you’ll always have the right side out, so you’ll always be knitting. just make sure to get the legs on the needle so that the purl bumps are on the inside.

best of luck!
