Joining in the round (backwards)

I have a pattern that says, when it’s time to join in the round, “do not turn. With front of fabric facing you, join for working in the round”. I’ve attached a photo of the pattern (relevant section marked).

I cannot find a tutorial for this and it’s so awkward when I try it - can anyone direct me to a tutorial or explain how to do it?

Thanks so much!

Are you working on a short enough circular needle that you can spread out all your stitches without pulling and stretching them out of shape? If the stitches stretch easily around the needle you will be joining the last stitch that you just knit to the first stitch of the row. If the stitches don’t stretch easily you may need to work on a shorter needle or use a technique like magic loop or 2 circulars.
This is similar to joining a hat to knit in the round as shown in this video. For your pattern it’s a little easier to make sure the stitches aren’t twisted because you have already knit 10 rows.

What length needle are you using? What is the name of your pattern and the designer?
