I never join in the middle of a row, always at the beginning because it would be lumpy. But oh Gurus, is there any way of working out how much is needed to knit the next row with what’s left of the old ball? I quite often get halfway or worse nearly to the end when it runs out. Thank you.
Joining in a new ball of yarn
Try the russian join, I tend to use either that or the invisible join. No lumps at all.

I estimate 3-4 times the length of the current project. Here’s a good way to estimate ahead of time while you still have lots of yarn left.
Ironically, I literally was debating the same issue last night. I had googled the question and came across the 4x answer. So I loosely did the measuring, since it was on circulars and bunched up a little and was able to complete entire row with enough to weave in the end. If I was just eyeballing, I wouldn’t have guessed I would have enough. I just hate wasting yarn early on in a project because always have the fear of running out before end of project, even though had purchased what was recommended. Anyway, good video and am chuckling that at roughly same time, the same question was being debated somewhere else in the world.
How funny. We are never alone.
