Hi, knitting my first adult sweater. Lion Brand wool-ease thick and quick Country Jacket # 10181. I am working on the left front. I have already done the Pocket slant shaping. I am confused on the join pocket opening with pocket lining.
You’re going to join the pocket lining to the sweater edge sts that are on the first holder and not to the sweater body sts at this point. The pattern is confusing here.
Join pocket opening with pocket lining: Next row (WS) P across pocket lining sts to last 2 sts, p 1 pocket lining st tog with 1 sweater edge st, keeping pocket lining st on top of body st rep from * to * with next st, then p across rem sweater body sts.
I can try to make a diagram of this if you think it might help.
Yes please a diagram I think will help. I don’t seem to be able to picture this in my head. Thank you so much for your help. I have looked on you tube and can’t find anything in English. Thanks so much again.
OK, NOW I see what I was doing wrong. Thank you so much. I will try this when I get home from work.
You did it! you got me past the hard part. Thank You again for your help. I can’t believe how happy I am to get past that pocket. LOL
Well done! Enjoy knitting the rest of the sweater.
Hi,
I know it has been a long time. I am currently trying to do this. I have never made a sweater with a pocket. I am a visual person. I still can’t still seem to get it.
I have purled across the pocket lining until the last two stitches. I don’t understand what to do next
I am sorry to be such a pain.
I don’t have anyone to physically ask
Thank you so much,
Julie
Welcome back!
This is easier to do than to think or read about. What is the name and designer of your pattern? Is the sweater knit top down or bottom up?
Often the pocket lining is knit and held until you’re ready to add it to the sweater. Then you work over to the place on the front to add the pocket, put a number of sts on hold then knit across the held sts of the pocket lining and finish the row. This depends on the type of pocket and the direction of knitting so knowing that will help.
OK, if I understand the photos, in photo 1 you have the pocket liner. Photo 2 shows the front with the sts on hold which will form the pocket. It looks like the held sts for the pocket are the ones on the pin to the left. (if that’s not the correct place, let us know.)
Knit across the to the held sts on the front (blue line) then, instead of completing the row on those front sts, knit across the held sts for the pocket liner (red lines). The pocket lining can sit in back of the front sts if you want a visual of the eventual pocket.
What is the name of your pattern and designer?
Very nice! Does the pocket make sense now or are you still unsure?
This video is similar to your pattern. The front sts for the pocket are cast off where your sts are on hold but the idea of substituting the pocket lining for the pocket front sts is similar.
