Join neckband

I have my neckband ready and it measured 40cm., and it didn’t mention to bind off either.

Please advise how to join this two pieces together.

Thanks in advance

NECKBAND
Using 3mm needles, cast on 138 sts and work in k1,p1 rib for 3 cm, then knit 1 row (RS) and work several rows in st st of a different color.

MAKE UP
Sew sides between Back and Front, leaving k2,p2 rib at bottom free.
Sew sleeve seams. Join sleeves to body and sew shoulder tabs, matching points A, B, C and D.

Sew neckband, matching sts and using backstitch on right side of work.

Since the pattern mentions using backstitch, that sounds like the neckband is bound off. Seeing the pattern will help however.
Here’s a video for backstitch in case you need it.

Is there a way to join them together without bind off and backstitch?

Here’s a way to graft the live sts to a cast on or cast off row.

Ohh sorry, Here is the pattern.

Will this graft in work well on garter stitch?

This is why I get stuck (questions myself) if I follow the pattern instructions :

  • will the neckband still stretchy after bind off for me to join it to the body.? Because the body neckline seem so wide.

  • will the backstitch bind off make the collar not as stretchy?

  • I am concerned the neckband will not sit up right If I follow THIS video to join the neckband.

  • My back shape look like ‘V’ , I can’t imagine how it will look like after join the Neckband. Start wondering if I did an error.

Very pretty design and sweater.
ETA: If your last row of garter shows knit sts closest to the needle and not purl bumps, then the graft should work. See my suggestion below.
If you cast off loosely the bind off will be stretchy enough. Necklines always seem wide before the collar is joined. That collar will pull in the front, back and sleeves.

The backstitch is a little stretchy but it will limit the stretch of the collar.

It looks to me like the shape at the back may even out with the addition of the collar.

You can always bind off the collar, then pin or baste it in position. See how it looks and feels.
One alternative is to pick up the 138sts or so around the neck. It would be much easier in the end because you won’t have to fiddle with the collar seam and setting the collar in place. That’s what I would do.

Just want to update my progress.
Finally got it done., and thanks for all the help.
