Job Update

Well, unfortunately, it didn’t work out :frowning:

She wasn’t able to work scheduling out with my availability, which is really understandable considering hubby works 40 hours a week and goes to school in the evenings, I have a daughter starting 1st grade, and, a son who I currently stay home with which cuts into my availability. Which also is why I haven’t gotten a job yet, and why I have to put off beauty school until my son starts school next year. I just wish I knew of something I could do to bring in some extra cash. Maybe housecleaning. Or babysitting, if I can find anyone who needs a babysitter…lol Ah well, hopefully I’ll work something out.

I’m sorry it didn’t work out for you with this job, but am hoping something will come your way soon.

I’m so sorry. I’ve been in your situation before and know how tough it is.

I’m sorry that it didn’t work out

Aww, I’m sorry it did not work out. But hey you will end up with something even better later on.

I tried working when my kids were little and it was very hard so I understand. I hope something will come along soon!

Oh, drat. Here’s a thought: does the beauty school have day care? Just about all the tech schools around here do (most of them have child development degrees and such, so the day care is the lab!)

Good luck in your search. What kind of jobs are you looking for?

A few of my friends are making extra money doing housecleaning. They are charging $20/hr and it generally runs about 4 hrs once a week for a house and about 2 hrs for an apartment. I am gardening for a neighbor who lost his wife but wanted to keep her flowerbeds going. It takes me about 3-4 hours once a week.
I don’t know how you feel about housework, but I would rather do yard work for extra money than clean house.

Babysitting teachers kids is how my mom brought in extra income when I was a little girl. Try talking to your daughters teachers. There are always teachers looking for childcare and they may also be keeping their ears open for other parents who need childcare. Good luck. Sorry the tattoo shop didn’t work out.

Becky Morgan: Unfortunately the beauty school does not have day care, I checked into that the day I talked to the admissions director. Bah…lol

NikitaShera: Originally I was thinking of housecleaning because that would allow me to pretty much set my own hours and days because I’d need something flexible. The call I got from the tattoo shop was a little unexpected. I was offered a job there about 2 years ago, the owner talked to me about it the day after I got one of my tattoos. She wanted to train me to be a piercer, which, I would have LOVED!!! (can’t express that enough…lol) to do, but, hubby’s school schedule was more hectic at that point, and, my daughter hadn’t begun school yet, and, my mom was still working so I had no one to watch the kids. Unfortunately, I had to decline the offer. Then, about 6 months ago, I called the owner to see if she needed any help since my mom was no longer working, my daughter was in school, and, hubby was going to school only 2 nights a week instead of 3. But, she didn’t have any positions available then…lol…It’s pretty much been one of those things where if she has something, I’m the first person she calls but sadly, we haven’t been able to work it out yet. I know there’s always the possibility of working there, but, the timing has just been off. I’d really like to do something either from home, or, something like housecleaning or babysitting (actually, I’d rather babysit than houseclean…lol). I really, really wish I could put my photography and graphic design skills to use to make money, but no luck on those ends either.

Plantgoddess+: Yeah, housecleaning is kind of a last resort for me. It’s not that I think down upon it, I know it’s a great way to make some extra cash, and, it’s how my mom helped support my dad’s income when I was a kid, but, I just really don’t like cleaning houses…lol…I do what I have to do at home, but, I don’t really go above and beyond…lol…But, if I have to, I have to. I think I’d rather do yard work too, I MUCH prefer being outside!

kristaj: Now that’s a thought! I don’t know why I never thought of babysitting teachers kids. My daughter’s kindergarten teacher had a baby this past April and she’s still teaching, she came back 10 days before the school year was over…lol…I’ll talk to her once school starts, or see if any other teachers need babysitters!

After school care for working parents is so hard to come by. The other secretary in my office is always in a bind trying to find some one to take care of her kids (picking up from school, too) between 3 and 6. Unimaginable as it seems, there are still schools in our area that don’t have latchkey programs. You might consider something like that.
