Japanese short rows

I started knitting the Rug sweater by Junko Okamoto and it is my first encounter with japanese short rows. I watched a few videos and it’s make sense to me but I have a problem with “sl 1wyif”- I understand how to do it on the RS but I have no idea how to do it on the WS following the pattern.
(section 2, row 2)

Maybe it’s a problem on which way is front and which back?
When the pattern refers to “in front” it means the side that is facing you. That may be the back of the knitted piece but nevertheless, “in front” is the side facing you. In the same way, “in back” is the side facing away from you.
This is the way I’ve always seen Japanese short rows worked, using a pin or marker.

Thanks to your link I have to revisit Japanese short rows. Her technique for resolving them is different than I have seen before and might make them worth the bother. Thanks!
