i’m using nona’s fabulous tutorial here
http://nonaknits.typepad.com/nonaknits/2005/04/japanese_short_.html
but i have two questions. the first one, i feel like i should know, but i keep managing to screw up my count. i am using this in the round to make the rainbow socks and that pattern calls for the yarn over short-row, which i just wasn’t getting good results with. i am getting beautiful results with the japanese, but my counts are messing up.
if i understand correctly, on the japanese you actually knit the last stitch of the short row, then pull the loop up from it with the safety pin and knit/purl it with the next stitch. if that’s the case, if the instructions say to k4 after closing the gap, would i then actually count that next stitch as 1, the one i’m using to close the gap? I thought that was right, but it’s not working.
also, any tips on doing the last one when you go back into the round? the last purl turn winds up being knit together not purled together and i’m stumped.
thanks!
