Japanese knitting

I’m lost.
I’ve seen this hat
and now it’s my must to have number one. Actually I decided to knit 3 of them for my family, and even my husband said he would wear it!! :rofling:

The problem is - I have no idea, where to look for the pattern. I spied this is 1999/10 issue “Let’s knit series” but can’t find anything more.
I even found it on Japanese Amazon, but my Japanese is not good enough to buy this!!
The true - my Japanese is deep below zero level.
Hopefully my English is better.

I’ll be thankful for any directions. Information in English about Japanese knitting etc

Lost on the Japanese deal, but I will suggest that you go to www.knittingpatterncentral.com and look under ‘hats’ for this or a similar hat

yup i would do a search for an earflap hat pattern. the pointy top is easy enough done by just doing some small diameter knitting once you reduce it down to the 5 or 6 stitches that make up that point. i think pretty much any ear flap hat can be doctored to look like that.

:notworthy:

thanks for the interest, and help.
The problem with every earflap patern is I don’t want to look like a teletubi (not to mention my husband :roflhard: ). So I’m not sure where to start the point.

I’m still looking … starting with rebecca’s link.

:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

Oh, sorry! I just had a vision of me trying to convince my 6’7" tall husband to wear that hat. It would add, what?, at least 3 inches to your height?

Hey, do it in red and green and you’ve got a really cool Christmas hat!

Or… save it for next year done in various pastel colors and go for the teletubi thing!!

You are very lucky to have such an accepting husband!

Angela

Oh, if you find the pattern in German or Dutch… let me know and I’ll give you a hand.

Here’s a pointy hat. Maybe you can just add earflaps? :??

:roflhard: :rofling: There’s always…Pinky :roflhard: :rofling: :roflhard: the most absurd looking hat in the world

Nice find Femmie.

Looks like it might have a single-crochet edging done around the bottom rim, doesn’t it? Optional, I’m sure, but it does make a neat edge.

…OMG Rebecca! LOL! That hat’s awesome.

This needs to go n the “You knit WHat?” site

This site has a similar pattern…

…followed boy the dreaded “coming soon!” :wall:

I was wondering how the designer got such ANY guy to model it for her, much less such a cutey, but then I realized the model IS the designer!

Very strange choice.

And, Im wondering if there is ANY real reason that he felt compelled to model that hat with no shirt on? :??

I just bought the book: Handknit Holidays by Melanie Falick. on page 108 there is the cutest hat on the planet (Sparkly Kiss Cap) that looks similar to the hat you want to make, without the earflaps. check it out if you need help!

On a whim I decided to check out my most favorite site in the world… and low and behold

Here it is

 Imagine they would have it  :roflhard:

:roflhard: :roflhard: :roflhard:

now I’m not sure which one I need. Maybe pinky …

thanks to everyone
I’ll check the book
and look for Japanese in Ottawa, who could order the Magazine on their Amazon. You never know

the problem is with the point. I just checked (trying my son’s hat  ) that to have the point in right spot hat has to be longer at least 10 cm in back.
I’m not sure? Start with the earflaps and add stitches for back, and at the end knit around? Or make additional part of row in between? This Japanese technique is very clever. So clever, I’ve no idea, how to …

HA! They have Handknit Holidays in the library.
Or rather they expect on Dec.17. Not bad.

Sparky kiss hat looks like Hersley Kiss chololate

finally I have the solution.

  1. make a form from aluminum foil (good it’s not sock, will easy to take of)
  2. flat the form and make copy on paper
  3. just :XX:

I’m wonder about … result …

:roflhard: :rofling: That Pinky hat is just too much! I dunno if it’s the hat or the “model”… :roflhard:

Ok - I might have a solution for you.

My DH’s friend spent over 5 years in Japan teaching English and I bet he’d be able to translate it for you. Send me a PM with the pattern attached and I’ll pass it to DH to pass to his friend. If I bribe him with beer and homemade crab cakes he’ll be begging to help!

o! Thank you

:crying:

it’s not an option.
I can read Japanese pattern (usually it’s diagram not a written text).
The “ONLY” problem is - I can’t buy this on Japanese Amazon :??
