Well, it’s official. I will be unemployed as of August 11, 2009. Just got back from a horrendous bumping meeting (ie Chinese water torture) in which we all had to sit there while they read off the names and those folks had to accept a job that belonged to another person, leaving the 2nd person out of work. Since they eliminated all the positions in the Adult School, I didn’t have to go through that because I had no one to bump.
While I still have an income, I’m going to stock up on yarn because I’ll never get through this without my knitting! So, I guess that is a silver lining isn’t it!
I can’t imagine having to bump someone out of their job - that is definitely Chinese water torture. I’m sorry you had to go through that and get bad news on top of it.
Thanks for all your good wishes everyone. I think I’m still in the shock stage or maybe it’s just that I have to keep showing up for work for a few more weeks but I haven’t fallen completely apart yet!
I have begun the process of getting some retraining dollars to beef up my skills and decide what I want to be when I grow up. That has helped me to have something positive to focus on.
Looks like CA finally has a budget but education is taking another big hit
“The budget includes $6 billion in new cuts to K-14 schools, as well as $3 billion in cuts to higher education, some of which colleges can offset with federal stimulus dollars.” ~Sacramento Bee
Those cuts are on top of the ones we’ve already had to absorb. Even if there is a way to save Adult Ed, the K-12 folks will need to sweep those funds just to keep their programs alive.
But on the positive side, I get to dream about what I’d like to do. I haven’t thought about that in forever so this ought to be interesting!
