It truly is an "idiot cord"

:crying:

Ok, ALL of Amy’s videos rock! They were my guide when I first tried to do this thing called knitting 6 months ago. I have referred EVERYONE to this site because of them. I swear by them.

So why why why WHY can’t I figure out I-cord? Was it because I tried at 3 am? Was it because I truly am an idiot? ARGH! I read 3 books, one other site and watched the darned video 10 times and I still don’t get it! When you slide the suckers from one side of the needle to the other, what then? What does it mean “don’t turn your work”? How do I start knitting again? Where does the working yarn go/start working again?

ARGH!

it took me forEVER to get the I-cord and it was because i didn’t follow the best advice i ever got (JUST KEEP KNITTING)…i kept thinking it didn’t look right until i just kept going and it started forming itself right.
just pull the yarn tight over into the right position and it will pull the work into the cord as you go along.

Knit your three (or whatever) stitches, slide the work to the other end and do NOT turn. Pull the working yarn across the back tightly and starting knitting again. The yarn pulled across the back will create the back of the cord and make it round. Once you get the hang of it it’s mindless and can be done in front of the tv easily.

Aha! That’s it! The missing piece! “Pull the working yarn across the back tightly and starting knitting again.” Eureka! See, that’s what I was doing but I doubted the whole yarn across the back thing coz it looked weird. But iafter I knit more than 5 rows, I was good to go!

Thanks, Jan and brendajos!
