I would like to find a simple, skull cap-style hat pattern that does not require dpn’s. I have a 29" size 7 needles, but i dont know if those would be too big? It is going to be my first hat attempt so any advice would be great!
thanks,
Amanda

I suggest you go and learn the Magic Loop method (video on this site) for doing the crown of a hat and then swap to a 16" circ for finishing the rest of the hat.
If you want to knit it in the round that is.
I dont use DPN’s, I use Magic Loop instead, works just as well and is easier to start out with.
Good luck
29 inches is too long unless you are doing Magic Loop. Normally I’d suggest 32 -40 in for ML, but it can be done on 29 in and you won’t have to use DPNs at all. And any hat pattern will work with ML.
Here’s a few basic ones.
