Is "yf" (yarn front) the same as "yo"?

I’m having trouble reading a shawl pattern that was created in New Zealand.
What does “yrn” (yarn round needle) mean? Thanks for any help you can give to me. Ginger in Atlanta, GA

I’m not really sure but it sounds like yarn over. I just logged onto knitchat at the exact same time as you logged out!

yrn means yarn round needle which is a yo.

yf is yarn forward, which will create the yo if the next stitch is a knit, but sometimes putting the yarn in front has other purposes.
