Is this right?

Hi everyone. I’m reading over a baby blanket pattern online, and I’m having trouble with the directions.

9th Row – K1 P1 for the first 6 stitches. Place marker. Knit across to the final 6 stitches. Place marker. K1 P1 for the final 6 stitches to end. (Right side)
10th Row - K1 P1 for the first 6 stitches to marker. Purl across to marker. K1 P1 for the final 6 stitches to end. (Wrong side)
11th – 19th Rows - Continue in this stockinette pattern for 10 rows.

20th Row – GARTER STITCH ROWS - K1 P1 for the first 6 stitches to marker. Purl across to marker. K1 P1 for the final 6 stitches to end. (Right side)
21th Row - GARTER STITCH ROWS - K1 P1 for the first 6 stitches to marker. Purl across to marker. K1 P1 for the final 6 stitches to end. (Wrong side)
22nd Row – GARTER STITCH ROWS - K1 P1 for the first 6 stitches to marker. Purl across to marker. K1 P1 for the final 6 stitches to end.
23rd Row – GARTER STITCH ROWS - K1 P1 for the first 6 stitches to marker. Purl across to marker. K1 P1 for the final 6 stitches to end.

The parts where I don’t understand is from the 19th row to the 20th row. When I counted, the 19th row will end on the right side. How can the 20th row also be on the right side?? I understand the pattern wanting a garter stitch on row 20-23 ( to produce 2 garter rows before the eyelet), but if I knit across row 19, than follow directions and purl across row 20, than I will not have a garter stitch… will I??? Am I reading too much?/ i have not started yet, but I have a habit of reading through the entire pattern first before getting into it.

thank alot my fellow knitters…

If you get that far and it still works out that way (I get the same rs/ws results you do), then either eliminate row 19 or add an extra row to get to the right side again so you can follow 20-23 as written. An extra or missing st st row won’t matter, but you want the garter to be correct before the eyelets. Just make a note to do the same thing every time this section comes up.

I wasn’t sure if it was just me or not… so thank goodness I’m not going crazy. I’ll take your advice, thank you.

Also, I’m not sure if you remember Ingrid, but I had a post about 2 weeks ago about CO edge and BO edge matching.

I have learned the provisional CO, and I"m wondering what happens after I’m ready to work off of that edge. will I bind of as usual and both sides should look the same??

Also, on that same topic, does the first row seem weird. The stitches are very loose (not even looking like stitches)?? It’s kinda weird when I’m getting ready to knit into it. Is that right??

Thank you.

If you did the provisional cast on that kind of twists the waste yarn back and forth, yes, they look weird because they aren’t stitches yet, really. I always get messed up on that one so I usually do the provisional cast on when you knit into a crocheted chain.

When you get ready to bind off, then whatever you do on one end you do on the other.
