Is this an error in the pattern?

I am making floppy elf ears for a child’s beanie, I’m quite new to this.
The pattern says:
"Using a pair of UK 10 needles cast on 25 sts.“
Then all the following steps are listed
"Round 1: knit
Round 2: k1, k2tog…” Etc

What needles do I use?
Is it a typing error that should say UK10 Circular? Or can I do a round on normal needles?

Thank you in advance

If you were to knit in straight needles following these directions, you would end up with ears done in garter stitch. Can you post a link to the image showing your project?

This is an image from the book cover, it’s the green elf one at the top.
… I hope this works I’m on my iPhone so I have limited options

…nope…
Here’s the link

Very cute! They look like garter stitch to me. Are you instructed to seam them after you finish knitting them?

No, it just tells you to weave in the ends and how to sew them onto the hat :frowning:

I think you’re fine. I just blew up the image to 400% and it looks as though the ears are meant to flop. What are the sewing instructions?

Blrrgstm, in the requirements for needle size(s) does it also say what type of needles are required? It’s just that I’m wondering if the pattern wants you to use a set of DPNs, cast on the 25 stitiches using 2 of these needles and then use the rest of the set to knit in the round. For me, the are two clues to this. The obvious clue to this is the fact that they specify UK 10 needles, and we went metric (in knitting needles and patterns) last century. The implied clue is that if it is a reprint of an older pattern, it’s possible that Magic Loop was not an option on circulars when the pattern was orginally published.

I would say use the straight needles. The instructions are given for a garter stitch which is what the picture shows; were you to follow the instructions with circular needles you would end up with a stockinette stitch. It looks like you fold the ears lengthwise before you sew them to the hat.

Thank you. I think you’ve cracked it! I will read each as a row instead of a round:-P
