Is there a recommended "Pattern Bible"?

I am curious if there is a recommended “Pattern Bible”. A book that many of you recommend for patterns and ideas?

I’ve knit many things from The Knitter’s Handy Book of Patterns. It’s got patterns for hats, gloves, socks, sweaters, mittens, scarves, vests, cardigans, and possibly things I’m forgetting. The designs are simple, great patterns for your first time knitting the item, and they are given in a way that allows you to use whatever yarn you want, and gauge you get, so it’s a very very versatile book. Patterns are given in a wide range of sizes.

I agree with amy–the Handy Book of Patterns is great for any basic thing you’d want to make.

You may also want a stitchionary…

The 365 knitting patterns a year perpetual calendar is AWESOME.

The Knitters Bible is also a good reference and has a nice stitchionary…

I think others have recommended the Vogue Stitchionary.
