Is it possible?

I have come to the conclusion that I really like granny squares. Is there a way of knitting granny squares or is crocheting really the only way to go?

I don’t know of any knit that will exactly duplicate the crocheted granny square (although there may be), but you can can make squares. You can add YO, k2tog patterns to them, etc to mimic the granny. Here’s a pattern for a square knit from the center out that you can maybe work with.

Thanks those look nice. I think maybe I may have to pick up crocheting then. I never did have much luck with it. Maybe I’ll understand it better. I found That the hex blocks are really neat. I’ll try these squares for now

Here is a mitered square, not exactly granny-squarish, but square just the same.

Um…I don’t really know, but the book Mason Dixon Knitting by Kay Gardiner and Ann Shayne has a nice mitered square pattern…Hope this sorta helps! LOL

I’ve seen several sites that talk about using your guage swatch to create mosiac (granny-square) projects. I haven’t tried any yet, but I used to crochet alot of afghans.

I did a quick search and found this. http://www.p2designs.com/pdfs/afghan-knit%20granny.pdf

I’m not sure if it’s what you want, but it was all I could find. On page 2 it even shows you how to put it together into an afghan. Hope that helps you!

The Summer 2009 Interweave Knits magazine has a top that looks crocheted, but it’s squares of filet knitted squares sewn together. Look for the Filet Patch Blouse by Teva Durham in that magazine.

I’ve seen knit doilies, so I think you could knit an open stitch square similar to a granny square. I wouldn’t know how to start it.[/color]
