Invisible Cast On

Hey, me again  Got such great help before I decided I might as well try again! I’m attempting an invisible cast on like in the video on this site…with a cable needle…and I have two questions.

1.) First of all, can you use it for circular knitting?

2.) Looks like you cast on 2 stitches each time you go through the little “chant” she gives you, right? So what if you need to cast on an odd number of stitches?

Yes, you can do it for knitting in the round. If you stop when you have the odd number of stitches, you’ll be fine; you don’t have to pick up the stitches front and back, just stop.

Yeah, for some reason I just can’t get it into a circle. Did the crochet version instead. Are they pretty much interchangeable?

Well, it won’t form a circle until you knit the first stitch to join. It may help to work the first round with the scrap yarn, then add the project yarn to work the actual pattern. But the crochet CO should work okay too.

The crochet hook method is the only one I use and I knit in the round all the time.

What are you making and how many stitches did you cast on? What size needle/cable and what weight of yarn?

Am making this hat for the second time…

First time I followed her instructions but then realized I could probably use a different method (provisional cast on) and it would be easier. Casting on 129 on size 2 needles with a sport weight. I actually have a great background in crochet so after trying that method it was a synch!

Sport weight is pretty thin even with 129 stitches. How long is your cable? What I’m asking for is if it’s too long you’ll never be able to make a single loop circle circle (like with a 16") without stretching it unless you’ve got a cable long enough for magic loop.

I make hats for charity and I use the magic loop method. For hats I always use a 40". You can do a modified magic loop, but I don’t care for that method myself. If you have two needles you can use two with needles the same size.
