Interweave Knits is the only knitting magazine that my library carried for about 2-3 years. I found out last Tuesday that they will longer subscribe. WAH!!! Worse still, they placed all of the magazines they had in a box out front for free. I managed to get only one, the last one from 2010.
Tell me why they can carry several wood working, several quilting, along with tons of other magazines I wouldn’t spit on if they caught fire, yet the only one in the whole place I care to browse, they quit with.
If so many people were quick to take the issues they were giving away for free that must mean there were quite a few library patrons who enjoyed the magazine … I wonder why they would stop subscribing to it? Have you spoken to the librarian to find out what the reasoning behind their decision was? Maybe if they knew how many people read Interweave at the library they would reconsider … ?
Noooooooooo :pout: Omg, I would definitely be having a talk with the librarians… I’d be like: take out People magazine… it’s only gossip anyway and there’s lots more like it! Lol, that’s me, though… I’d say if you get a petition together… stand in front of the library with it and ask everyone entering or leaving to sign if they want to see Interweave Knits magazine in there… then present it to the library, once you get a lot of signatures.

The reason for stopping the subscription was because no one checked it out. I think I did once, but as I told them, I looked at them everytime I came into the library (2 times a week) and made an occasional copy. There may have been others that did the same, but I can understand not renewing the magazine if there didn’t seem to be enough interest in it. I’m gonna miss having it to browse.
Do the petition… it can’t hurt… would only take time and effort and you could really get a list of people who actually want to see the magazine in the library. Also, in the petition, maybe make a small space for them to put down how they use the magazine in the library and why they don’t check it out. Maybe several people actually do look at it in the library and make copies- just like you! If you can afford to, buy just one of the magazine to carry with you when you do your petition, so those who aren’t sure can look through it and see if that’s something they really do want to see in the library. If you can’t buy one, maybe you can borrow one! I’d send you one but I don’t have postage… I’m poor, too… If money were old crafts mag subscriptions, I’d be rich, though… filthy rich! lol
I just bout a copy of the Cureent copy of Interweave Knits tonight at Walmart. I bought it at the Mulberry , FL Walmart Supercenter. So check your local Walmart, it was on the aisle with the yarn.
You know I already checked the website. However many magazines are free online, if you want to consider another knitting mag. I read my NYTimes and dozens of mags online.
I always enjoyed looking through the magazine at the library. I hated to see that they were no longer going to subscribed to it.
Mainly because I like it and it was free. I know I can purchase it and others at Wal-Mart, but as I stated I don’t have extra funds that can be spent on magazines whether bought one at a time or via subscription.
I was irritated because they might carry ten different magazines of any given topic yet they quit with the only knitting magazine that they had. They don’t even carry crochet magazines.
Thanks everyone though. When I have more time at the libraries free WIFI I’ll look to see what online magazines are available for free.
I just did a fast Yahoo search for you. Here are some free magazines, and the last one is a review of online magazines. If you need any more, just plug "online knitting magazines " into your favorite search engine.
Really? I’ve never seen any of the major magazines offer free back issues. If they did no one would buy them since they can get the free issue later it seems to me. :?? Maybe I’m misunderstanding you…
Maybe not so many knitting magazines, but if you check the left side of my home page, all those mags and newspapers can be found online. Not just back issues but either entire or partial selection of current issues. The Wall Street Journal charges, but very few others. Many can be delivered to your email too.
