interpreting pattern!

Hi all
I am currently knitting a Rowan Cowl pattern. It’s a bit more advanced than I’m used to and the first hurdle I’ve hit is this:
Round 3: K to within 21 sts of marker

The work is divided into 2 sections of 92 stitches and although I understand that it means work until there are 21 stitches left to go before reaching the marker but why doesn’t it just say K 51 ?
Am I missing something important or doesn’t it mean that?
Thanks

IMHO there is no rhyme or reason to pattern writing.
Do you have a link to the pattern? That might help in figuring out if this matters.

Hi
I can’t post a link as it’s one I bought and downloaded but it’s called Rowan Scallop Cowl. I can copy and paste part of it here (this is after the rib):
Now work in patt as folls:
Round 1 (RS): K to within 1 st of marker, P2 (marker is between these
2 sts), K to end.
Round 2: Knit.
Round 3: K to within 21 sts of marker K2tog, K16, yfwd, K2, P2 (marker is
between these 2 sts), K2, yfwd, K16, sl 1, K1, psso, K to end.
Round 4: Knit.
Rounds 5 and 6: As rounds 1 and 2.
These 6 rounds form patt.
Rep last 6 rounds 7 times more, then rounds 1 to 5 again.
Change to 3¼mm (US 3) circular needle.
Work in rib as given for cast-on edge for 4 rounds.

Posting a pattern link is fine. Someone might decide to buy it or might already have it.

No, what I meant is that it’s not possible: all I can do is paste a link to the Rowan website where it is sold as a PDF or booklet but you can’t see the actual pattern.

Hello
Are you on track with your pattern or do you need help with it?

I usually assume there is something happening in the pattern that requires me to count from one end rather than from the other. I think the directions work past the marker so perhaps it’s just easier to count from the marker each way?
