Intarsia Question

If I start doing intarsia in the middle of a project, how do I get the yarn to stay in there? I’m just not quite sure how to start it off…

I just start knitting with the new yarn, leaving a nice tail and then when I am doing finishing stuff, deal with the tails in a way that fixes any gaps or anything. It will look loose and gape a bit but the finishing closes up everything nicely.

One more quick question: what is the best method for changing colors when knitting it the round?

This is separate from the intarsia issue? There is some way to do intarsia in the round, but it is not commonly done.

With the color changes in the round, how are you using the color? Stripes, or what exactly?

Umm…I’m experimenting, really. I’m making a sock, and originally I had wanted to do a solid block of a different yarn on the bottom of the sock. But seeing that that really hasn’t worked out well so far, with knitting in the round and everything, I’m trying out some fair isle and just “going with it.” So far, I have some…stripey…things…

It seems to be working out…We’ll see.

Experimenting is good, you’ll learn a lot. Keep going and have fun.
