Instructions in square bracekts?

Hi

I would love to knit this shawl
http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall09/PATTcolonnade.php

Some of the instructions are in square brackets, like here:
Row 1 [RS]: K2, yo, k4, [yo2, k2tog, k2tog] to 1 st before first marker, yo, k1; k1, yo, [k2tog, k2tog, yo2] to 5 sts before next marker, k4, yo, k1; k1, yo, k4, [yo2, k2tog, k2tog] to 1 st before next marker, yo, k1; k1, yo, [k2tog, k2tog, yo2] to last 6 sts, k4, yo, k2. 8 sts increased.

Does it mean I should repeat the part in brackets to x stitches before the marker?

Thanks!!!

Sandra

Yes, brackets are often used to indicated repeated stitches as well as parentheses. Usually they won’t both be used in the same pattern.

Thanks again!
