Inside out on dpns

Hi Everyone

My problem is that when I knit mittens my mitten is always inside out and I cant figure out why. Can anyone tell me why this is happening. After I am finished knitting I can turn it inside out and it is fine. I just think I am doing something wrong because when I go to pick up for the thumb I have to turn it the right way

No matter which method you use make sure the needles are closest to you and the loop of knitting is away from you. That assures you’re working on the outside of the mitten. Like this-

Hello Debbie.

When knitting in the round the convention is to have the tips of the (working) needles towards you, not away from you.

Think of this another way. When you look at your knitting from above think of your needles as either a clock face or a glass of water. To knit ‘right side out’ you need to be working at 6 o’clock or ‘drinking’ from the side nearest to you. If you working at 12 o’clock or ‘drink’ from the side furthest from you your knitting will be inside out.

However, some people are happy to work this way and flip their work when they’re done.

Thanks, I am going to try that right now.

Debbie
