Inserting a cable into ribbing?

I’m working on some toe-up magic loop socks right now.

I’m ribbing for the top and would like to go up to the knee or as far as the yarn will allow.

I’m going to need some increase since I have hefty calves. I know it’s hard to hide an increase in ribbing so I was thinking of adding a cable up the back of the leg to accomadate the hefty calves.

So, how would I go about doing this??

Just increase enough stitches for the cable and go?

TIA!

Sounds good to me!! Just remember that when using a cable pattern that’s written for flat knitting, if you’re doing it in the round the directions for all of the wrong side rows need to be reversed. Purls will be knits and knits will be purls.

Let us know how it works out!
