I inherited a few afghans and would like to knit one but no pattern. Does anyone recognize or know the patterns?
Zigzag one looks like it’s a generic crocheted zigzag pattern, but I’m not sure about the green one. :think:
The green looks like the candle flame stitch, the zig zag is crochet and is called a ripple . It involves crocheting a chain and skipping one or two stitches to make the valley holes
I appreciated each of you taking a look at my post/pictures and lord knows I am not very experienced at this - plus I know nothing of crochet. I am confused now for sure because I thought the ribble looked like knitting/purling.

Thanks for the closeup, you’re right it is knitted. It’s a ripple or chevron pattern with YOs instead of closed increases.

I recognize the pattern. I’m pretty sure it’s the same and very easy, and a quick knit to do. It’s called the 'Envelope Afghan" because it was written and sent on the back of an envelope. It’s pretty old. The only reason there’s a link at all is because somebody designed some vertical stripes for it. It was given to me from someone on Ravelry.
It has only 3 rows that are repeated and two of those are just K across and P across. Only the first row has any directions and you’ll need just K,P,yo and K2tog. skills to do it.

the green one has many simmilar patterns everywhere… they mainly are leave patterns. Just your pattern is drawn out more (not so tightly interlaced)

suzeeq, That’s what I call determination! So happy you found the pattern so that many knitters can have fun doing a pattern that won’t make them feel like quitting.
I told you it was old - did the pattern have B.C. on it anywhere?
They can make something quite lovely and alter the drape, width etc. depending on needle sz. and number of repeats. I think you’ve made lots of people happy. Thanks.

P.S. While I’m at it - what’s the best way to control yarn that’s being carried along for rather narrow, vertical stripes, for any afghan? Several colors of yarn can become a tangled mess and I’d like to avoid that.
I saw a post on ravelry yesterday that linked to a different pattern using this way back website. Since I hadn’t been able to find knitlist on web.archive.org, I thought I’d try it and it works. The pattern probably dates back to Atlantis or something…
