Info Afghans for Military Hospitals

I just had a very interesting conversation with an American Red Cross Station Manager at one of our Military Hospitals. She mentioned that what they really need are twin bed sized afghans.

Seems they are overloaded with lap blankets and do not need more. Most of the Service Members who are in wheelchairs are not interested in “hiding” their injuries so they don’t use the smaller blankets.

I thought I would pass this information on so if you are thinking of making a gift for a wounded Service Man or Woman at one of our Military Hospitals or Warrior Transition Units you might think “big” ~ a good size is about 3.5 to 4 feet by 5 to 6 feet. You will make their resting and recovery time so much more comfortable!!!

Could some of the Lapblankets be made sewn together to make an afghan?

The hospital is trying to use the ones they have received - sounded like they have a big supply. I said I would spread the word so further donations would be twin bed sized afghans and thus more useful.

I would suggest that prior to making afghans for a particular Military Hospital you contact the American Red Cross at the hospital and see what they need.
