Increasing

So I have a beginner question about increasing.

I know HOW to do the bar increase but I’m finding that my yarn is not stretched enough for me to have both needles in the same loop. Now, is this because of the yarn I’m using (beginner’s acrylic!!) or could it be something else? I’m finding it really frustrating because I’ll get the first few stitches in and then even if I stretch the yarn a bit more, it just won’t fit.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

How many stitches are you trying to fit into the one stitch?

I had that problem ALL the time at first with that kind of yarn so I started using a size smaller needle to do the increase and then slipping the stitches onto the needle. I knit TIGHT and that was the only way to do it.

Sometimes I will slip the stitch I am increasing into closer to the tip of the needle. I will pull the first loop through the stitch, and put it on my needle all the way {to get it to the right size, not so tight}, and then do the second stitch in the back. That way if I’m not working with a forgiving yarn, like the Eye Lash scarf I have in my lap right now, I can still get relatively even increases. Clear as mud?

Well I’m just trying to make one extra stitch per stitch. So, two per stitch in total.

Oh maybe I’ll give that a shot tomorrow! Thanks!

Well I find the first stitch is okay but it’s trying to knit into the back that buggers me up. I’ll have to fiddle some more tomorrow when I’m less frustrated! Thanks!

There’s no rule that you have to do kfb for increase. There are others.

Come to think of it, are you going from right to left into the back loop? That may be your problem. If you’re trying to go from left to right, you’d have difficulty.
