? increasing seed-stitch

Hello… Knitting ear-flap baby caps, and would like to use the seed-stitch for the flaps & beginning rows of the cap. I’m confused about how to increase the seed-stitch.

:knitting:

Just increase at the beg and end of the rows for the flaps, then knit or purl the next st as it appears; knit the purls and purl the knits. For the cap itself, I’m not sure - where are you supposed to inc and do you have a link to the pattern or a picture?

Here’s the site, pattern, photo of the hat – but, I’m wanting to seed-stitch the earflaps, and probably the first inch of the cap. I’ll knit the remainder of the cap and all of the decreases in stockinette[URL=“Baby/Kids’ Earflap Hat |”].

I’m changing the pattern w/the seed-stitch. Guess I can’t cast on 7 to begin w/because seed-st calls for an even # right? If I were to increase at the beg and end of each row, I would increase w/opposite of the first stitch on… ie. if row 1 was 6 st. K1, P1, then row 2 would be ?, still confused…

I made the cap as shown in the pattern, and love how it turned out. They’re for the afghans for Afghans program… Thanks for any help you can give me.

Of course you can do seed st with any number of sts. CO 7 and kpkpkpk the first row. The next row would be the same if you don’t inc. To inc - kfb in the first st, then p the knits and k the purls as they appear on that row and inc in the last st. Then also k the p and p the k on the following row. That’s all you have to do to keep it in pattern, you don’t have to try and figure out where to start each row.

For the cap, you’d co the sts, working the flaps in seed st as you come to them. Then you count back from the first earflap to the beg of round to see if you start the first round with a knit or a purl, then just kpkpkpkp all the way around. Don’t forget that the first earflap stitch will be a k2tog or p2tog with one of the new cast on sts when you count back. You may need to k/p 2tog when you come to the end of the round to keep from having 2 knit or 2 purl sts there.

 Thank you so much!!
