Increasing rows for sleeves

Hi! I’m onto the sleeves of my jumper and the instructions say inc 1 st at each end of 3rd and every following 9th row.

I’ve done the increase on the third row but is the next increase on the 9th row and then 9 rows thereafter? Making the increase on rows 3, 9, 18, 27 etc? Or is it 9 rows after the third row making the next increase on the 12th row?

I’m doing stocking stitch so if the above is right, I’d be doing some increases on the purl rows as well?

Thanks!

increase at each end of rows 3,12,21,30 and so on. You’ve got it!

Thanks @salmonmac, would I be right in saying that the increases on every 9th row would be on purl rows?

If the odd rows are purl rows, then yes, most of the increases are on purl rows. The even rows would then be knit rows.
If the odd rows are knits then the increases at least begin on mainly knit rows.
What is the name of your pattern and designer?

It’s King Cole super chunky knit round neck jumper, 5308. The first row after the cuff ribbing was a knit row so the odd rows are knit, even numbers purl. So the 12th row would be purl I believe? I’ve never increased on a purl row before son not entirely sure how to go about it!

What kind of increase do you like to work on knit rows? You can probably match it on purl rows like the 12th.

I’m a new knitter (as you can probably tell). I use the second method shown in this YouTube video https://youtu.be/vgx7k7Z_0fo , would that work for a purl stitch?

This is a Make 1 (M1) increase and it’s a very useful one. Yes, it can be worked from the purl side but in a slightly different manner.

You’re asking good questions, new knitter or not. Don’t hesitate to ask.
