Increasing ODD # stitches in a single row

(NOTE: I’m working the fourth size which I’ve bolded)
When the piece measures 3 cm dec all P3 to P2 = 168-188-200-224-248-272 sts. Continue the rib K2/P2 until the piece measures 10-10-11-11-12-12 cm, make sure the next row starts from the right side. Change to needles size 4 and continue in stocking sts (knit the 5 edge sts in gartr sts) at the same time adjusting the number of sts on row to 167-191-203-227-251-275 but do not inc or dec stitches on front panels.

Here is my question… where is the best place to put these 3 inc stitches and is a M1 the best or at least acceptable way to do so? I don’t want them to show, or rather, want them to show almost not at all. I’ve looked at the videos but didn’t know what you guys prefer to use and do I just toss one in here and there throughout the back portion of this cardigan or is there something strategic about placing extra stitches that the pattern and no one else seems to talk about?

Thanks!

Okay, so I’m looking at the chart and while I love charts I’m having a pain in the you know what trying to read this one… If there is anyone willing to check out the chart on the following pattern and help to enlighten me, i would be SO appreciative.

NOTE that ENGLISH translation for each symbol is located in the text just above where the charts are…

My question is this…Starting with chart M.1A I read the first line (knit/right side) as k4, k2tog, yo twice, slip stitch as if to knit, k1, psso, k7.

OR is it, where I have to YO twice, actually yo, k1, yo?? (looking closely at the pix I THINK this may be the correct reading of the YO’s)

OR am I completely off and can’t read a chart to save my life?

Thank you for your wise help and guidance …:muah:

For the increases, it says not to do them on the front panels, so I would probably do them at an edge where they won’t show as much. I think the M1 is probably the least visible increase you can do for that.

As the key to the chart isn’t in English I’ll leave the chart question for someone more experienced with charts than I.

astonh,

I went and looked at the chart and I think you are right about the second idea you had of how to read part M.1A. The middle part with the 0square0, would be YO, K1, YO.

That is really a cute sweater. I like Garn Studio.

astonh,

On the other question… I understand the construction to be that you are working both fronts and the back from the very beginning, casting on for the whole works at once. So when you are at the end of the ribbing and adding 3 stitches and they are not to be at the fronts,

at the same time adjusting the number of sts on row to 227 but do not inc or dec stitches on front panels.
I think I would add them at each side of what is where the back parts start (in other words at your imaginary side seams), that would be 2 and put one in the middle of the back = 3.

I find a simple backward loop increase works real well for adding stitches after ribbing. But a more complicated M1 increase, like the lifted bar between the stitches would work fine too. I just like the backward loop. It is simple and doesn’t disturb any other stitches and looks good to me.

Reading through this pattern makes my mouth water a bit. It looks like fun.
