Increasing Knit Stitches and avoiding holes HELP

I was taught to increase a stitch by just carrying the yarn over and then doing a knit stitch. This way always leaves a hole. If there is another way… could somebody please help me?

I’m so confused about increasing…more even more now. I looked at Amy’s ideas, but which one is the easiest??? Most common?

Either version of M1 is pretty common and simple.

Knitting into the front and back of a stitch is easiest, but the M1 increase is the most invisible.
