Increasing 2x2 rib for neck

I am knitting the neck -polo for a jumper and I am doing 2x2 rib, have reached 13 cm and my pattern says to now increase all 2 knit stitches to 3 knit stitches and then continue until rib measures 16 cm…

I have 68 stitches, so I calculate this to be an increase of 17 stitches? Also how to do I carry on doing my 2X2 rib after I have increased the stitches? Or does it just work out?

You will switch from 2x2 rib to 2x3 rib after the increases so that the ribbing continues to line up in columns. If your pattern has a photo, you may be able to see the change.

I can’t confirm the stitch count without a few more details. It would help if you could tell us the name of the pattern you are making, and whether the polo neck section is being knitted flat or in the round.

If it is in the round, then 17 extra stitches sounds correct - one stitch added for every four stitches.

If you are increasing in the knit column, and your first stitches at the beginning of the round are knit stitches, then after the increase round you will work knit 3, purl 2.

If you are still stuck, search the topic “How to read your knitting” and have a read of a few tutorials. This will help you to see whether the knits and purls ought to go after the increase to maintain the nice columns in the polo neck.
