I’m making my first sweater project. I’m at a lost on how to increase one stitch at the end of a ribbed row. What’s the best method of increase for the end of the row??? I tried to get help from the knitting books i’d borrowed from the library but couldn’t find any answers. Help please!
Increases in ribbing
Sounds like you’re making your sweater on straight needles, hm? I’d suggest taking a look at the increases page http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting/basic_techniques/increase.php
And make your increases match, i.e. when you’re increasing on the left, pick a left slanting increase. On the right, pick a right slanting increase.
When you increase in ribbing, you won’t be able to get it to match exactly, but it will be consistent. When I increase in ribbing, and try to make my increase match whatever stitch would come next–for example, if I’m approaching a point where the last stitch is presently an knit and the next would be a purl I’ll knit and purl into the last stitch. As you work the ribbing in sequence on the rows after the increases, the increases will kind of blend in.
Ingrid and Aidan, thank you for your quick response and advice. I will check it out.
