I’m working on a pattern that calls for 1 increase , but my question is when is that increased stitch knitted to go back to the required number of stitches (from 130 stitches back to 129 stitches)
Thank you
You have 129 sts and need 130? I’d stick the increase where it would be least disruptive to any pattern stitches and in as inconspicuous a place as possible - under the arm on a sleeve, in the area of a seam is or where a seam would be on a sweater. Knitter’s choice.
The increase is built into the pattern about 13 stitches from the end of the row. (Afghan) with the increase that gives me 130 stitches in the next row I should only have 129 stitches when I count out the stitches in the the row following the pattern
Depending on the pattern, the stitch may remain for the rest of the pattern. You may not be meant to decrease back down again.
Or you may decrease on a later row.
Can you tell us what pattern you’re making?
I posted a copy above row 22 shows the increase but when I complete row 24 it says I should have 129 stitches
Depending on the increase, I count 129 sts in row 22 not the 130 given in the pattern. That’s assuming that it’s an increase of a single stitch and that the scan shows the entire row.
What is the name of your pattern? It can be helpful information.
It’s Big book of quick knit Afghans pattern is Delightful
Very pretty. I obviously misread your question. I’m glad others are better readers!
No problem thanks
Beautiful afghan. Thanks GG for the link
Did you count actual sts in row 22? The pattern count may be wrong.
Yes I counted row 22 there is 130 with the 1 increase. Rows 1-21 has 129 which is the original cast on count. On the pattern on line 24 I should be back to 129
I may not be seeing the entire row if the scan has cut off the right hand side of the page.
(k1p1)3 times, k4, yo, p3tog, yo, k4
*s1, k1 psso, yo (k2tog, yo) twice, k7, yo(s1, k1, psso, yo) twice, k2tog, repeat from * 4 more times.
increase, k3,yo, p3tog, yo, k4 (p1k1) 3 times
Aha, I see in the introduction to the book that the increase is a kfb which uses a stitch and leaves you with 2sts. (so the increase counts as 2 sts). I would watch the pattern and see if the kfb maintains the pattern. If there’s a jog in the pattern, you might decrease over the kfb or rip back to it and work a M1 between sts instead. The M1 will keep the stitch count at 129.
Can you quote the next row that has a stitch count at 129?
The pic of 22 & 23 are the complete row.
On the attached it shows row 24 as having 129 again
About ready to start over and count each row but my stitches are equal to following the pattern
It seems to be an error in the pattern. If the stitch pattern looks right, starting over won’t help. You can either skip the increase (just knit the stitch) and see if the pattern is maintained or contact Leisure Arts. I couldn’t find any errata for this book.
