Increase

hi, first time here, been knitting some forty years, and this is first time have ran across this. I have increased in front and in back of stitches. This says to wrap next st as foll: wyif sl st to RH needle, wyib sl st back to LH needle, Turn, p2 sts past marked (center st ), wrap next st. Turn, k to wrapped st, M1,k2 wrap next st.

I have a sweater all done and this should have been the easy part the crowl neck. help who would have though after 40 years

I understand (with yarn in back, etc ) just how the wrap fits in, that would be the extra stitch to knit on the way back? or am I trying to read to far ahead.

I am thinking maybe trying with a swatch piece, to see how it comes together

Thanks to all ahead of time

I’m assuming that your cowl neck is employing short rows, ie… your not working all the way to the end of your rows, you are slipping your stitch, wrapping it, then slipping it back, turning and then working across your row to a particular point again, where you will repeat the process. The ‘wrap’ stops you from getting any holes as you turn your work. If you aren’t working these wraps, you will end up with a little bar/noose around your stitches that you will see on the finished product, unlike an invisible wrap, which has you work the wrap together with the wrapped stitch once you come to it again on the short rows. It won’t/shouldn’t make an extra stitch.

I feel like i’ve just thrown mud at you, so I’m not sure if this helps to clear things up any…

The wrap is not really an extra stitch. You wrap around the end stitch of your short row and when you work the longer rows again, knit it together with the end stitch. This helps prevent noticeable holes that can happen in short row knitting. This pattern seems to be a bit more complicated in that they have you do a M1, but it’s just before the wrap stitch and has nothing to do with it.
