Increase in open work pattern

Hello all!

I am working on a vintage sweater pattern and need some help. The row pattern is as follows:

Row 1: K2 * m1, K2 rep from * to end

Row 2: P2 * drop the made stitch, p 2nd stitch on left needle without removing, p the 1st stitch on left needle and slip both stitches off together. Rep from * to end.

I have to increase 1 stitch on each end every 8th row. This will obviously throw the pattern off. Any suggestions on the increase? Do I split the first stitch as if it were ribbing??

Thanks in advance!!

I would start and end with three after the first increase and add a repeat on either end with the second set of increases.

That’s what I was thinking too - but was worried it would look weird. Thanks - it’s always good to find out you’re on the right path!
