Increase in 2k1p ribbing

I have started on a sweaterlike item and need to increase from a 2k1p ribbing to ajour pattern. The increase is on the WS, so I figured I’d do it right before OR in the 1p stitch as

  • on the WS this will be knitted and the instructions for most increase stitches are for a knitted stitch
  • on the RS this will be the purl, so it might fall away a bit in the ribbing :cheering:

While I’ve figured out how to do all the increases over the whole row (from to 84, so almost every 2k1p repetition), I am not sure about what method to use for the increase itself. I’ve checked my knitting books and the page on this site about increases, but I can’t figure out what is the best way. I know I should just try it out, but I would like to know whether somebody has an idea on which I could best try. So far I’ve got:

  • kfb in the 1p (which is 1k on WS)
  • pick up a stitch between the 2k and 1p and as this is the WS I’ll knit it (increase on the purl side of the ribbing).
Now I think about it, maybe I should I purl the increased stitch, as it is on the WS and I’ll continue knitting with an ajour pattern with knits (and yo) on the RS… :hair:

Anybody any ideas?!

EDIT I did find this videoon how to let the kfb ‘fall’ into the ribbing, but this is on the RS and I need to know how it looks if I do something like this on the WS… does this mean I should do a pfb to get the same result?!

This really is a mattern of preference but since I like the knit right loop (KRL) or knit left loop (KLL)_ increases in general, the purl right loop is my favorite.

On the right side, it’s a nice invisible increase.

That is a great idea, it looks very neat - I’d never heard about this method before! I’ll try it.

EDIT: In the end, the best method proves to be the good old kfb, even on the WS… All the other ways give a hole, probably because I’m using big needles so the whole knitting is quite loose already.
