hi there! my name is jenny and i am a beginner knitter and new to the forums. i want to start a project other than a blanket or washcloth but seem to have run into a road block
i have:
K1, (inc 1) three times, K3 (inc 1) three times, K2 (18 stitches).
i reckon i would be increasing front to back of each K1 stitch, so that would give me 6? and with the K3, when do you do your increase? on the 3rd knit stitch or the beginning of the next one? i am awfully confused, in trying to figure it out, i thought i would end up with 20 stitches (6, 12, 2). but i must not be understanding something correctly. any help would be much appreciated!!
Hi Jennie, ok, you should have 12 stitches to star with if I am right?
What you need to do is knit 1 then increase in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th stitch. So, that is, knitting into the front then into the back of the same stitch to make 2 stitches out of one.
You then knit 3 normally (5th, 6th & 7th) then icrease in the 8th, 9th and 10th stitch then knit 2 normally (11th and 12th)
you will have incresed in 6 stitches in total which will give you 6 more stitches than you had at the beginnig, so you now have 18 stitches.
Hope this helps, Lydia
Which increase does the pattern say to use? Some people use M1 to just mean increase a stitch. A real M1 adds a stitch between 2 existing sts, and a kfb uses one to add a stitch.
How many sts are you starting with? I can’t make out from what you posted whether it’s 12 as Lydia posts, or if it’s 14. Or if there’s a typo in the pattern somewhere.
