I apologize if this has already been asked, but with my daughter by my side whining atm, I don’t have the chance to look through all the posts…lol…Anyway, my question is, when you need to make an increase or decrease, how do you know what increase/decrease to use? Does it tell you on a pattern which to use or is it just a matter or preference? Sorry if this is a dumb question…lol…Still quite new to knitting.

Usually the pattern will tell you. Some increases/decreases slant left and some right so it would make a difference especially in a garment.
If a pattern says to increase “in the next stitch” they usually mean to kfb. If you’re supposed to increase between stitches, it’s usually a M1, and there are several of those. Amy has videos of them.
Ok, thank you! I’ve checked out the videos so I’ve learned the kfb and M1 increases, now just to apply them to something…lol
