Hello Knitting Help, I am a new knitter. I have just finished a cardi for my sister and now her daughter wants a cardi. So my 2nd cardi . I have got stuck on this easy knit Sirdar pattern at the instructions to increase the sleeve. I am doing the 5th size. I have got as far as 32 stitches and have done the purl row. It seems to be saying I need to increase to 42 stitches over 20 rows? I’ve written 20 rows out and have put where I think it is telling me to add a stitch at each end but not getting to 42. Please can you help tell me why I am misunderstanding and advise what rows I need to increse on?
Increase a sleeve knitting pattern
Welcome to the forum and to knitting!
You’re doing really well, one cardigan down and I hope many more to go.
Work the 20 rows with no increases. On the next row, call it row 21, increase at each end. Continue increasing on rows 31,41,51 and 61 (that’s every 10th). Then increase on row 73 (that’s the 12th following row) .
Ahh right, I’ve completely misread it haven’t I thank you x I love this forum already
It’s so easy to do this. For some designers there is a predictive direction first but in this case the directions are sequential. You’re on your way now but if another question comes up, come back and ask. Come back anytime with comments or photos, too.
We’ve all done this at some point. One thing that might help would be to go through your pattern and circle the numbers for the size you’re working on…it makes it much easier to follow the increases / decreases.
We love this forum too!
Keep asking and share your progress pics, we like seeing what people are making.
