Incorrect pattern directions?

I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out what the actual directions should be for this free pattern that was on one of the skeins of I love this yarn that I picked up at Hobby Lobby.

it is the pattern called STRIPE PRINTED AFGHAN.
what I am wondering is about the edging that is crocheted around the afghan, round 1 says to single crochet all around the afghan,
round 2 says chain 6 then single crochet in each 2nd space across,
but for round 3 it says chain 2 (sc,5dc,sc) in same sp and in each ch 5 sp around,
where do they get the ch 5 sp around the afghan?
what I am thinking is that for round 2 it might be that there should be 5 chains between each sc in the 2nd sc across,
any ideas?

:cheering:

What confuses me is the second line where it says to crochet in each second space across. It confuses me because the first round was just single crochet all the way around. Usually when you have a line that says to crochet in spaces, you would have done some chaining on the previous round to create those spaces in the first place.

Do you have a picture you could link to? That might make it clearer so we can help you figure this out.

the pattern for the afghan is knit, which is no problem,
but the edging is crocheted. the only picture I have is the picture that is on the skein wrapper.
but here is what it says axactly:
Rnd 1: work a row of sc around the edge of the afghan.
Rnd 2: Ch 6 Sc in each 2nd space across.
Rnd 3: Ch 2 (Sc,5dc, sc) in same sp and in each ch 5 sp around.
or if I need to add some instructions to this, what would you recommend?
thank you for replying

It seems that row 2 is missing something. I would recommend trying round 2 like this:

Ch 6. Sc in second sc. Ch 5, sc in second sc around. This will give you a round of chain 5 spaces that go from one single crochet stitch, skip over one, and go to the second one.

Then for round 3, work the (sc,5dc,sc) into each of the chain 5 spaces to make what I think will end up being a pretty scallop.

Give that a try and see what you come up with. Or just work out your own scallop pattern after working a round or two of single crochet.

Hope this helps!

That’s how I’d read it too.
