Inc- Inc K1 pattern instruction

Hello, me again!

Head of a fox: Currently have 24 stitches on my needle. Instruction is “row 4: [inc. k1] 12 times [36]”

My thought here is it means to increase then knit every other stitch. so increase then knit then increase then knit so on so on so id end up with an extra stitch between each existing stitch But if i do that across 24 ill be doing more than 12 and end up with more than 36 in the end. Should i start Further into the stitches at x stitch so my increases are centered or should i space them out evenly so actually knit 2 increase By 1 Knit 2 increase by 1 etc. ( I was going to use an m1 increase correct me if incorrect) Or have i completey misunderstood and should be ddoing something else. These increase stitches have got me so confused. Also for reference so i dont come back - row 6 is [inc k2] 12 times row 8 is [inc k3] 12 times row 10 is [inc k4] 12 times so im very confused what the number behidn the k means as doing that many stitches after increasing will result in the wrong number and google is no help

ive popped the pattern on incase i didnt explain properly

The pattern is calling for an increase in a stitch rather than a make 1 increase. A knit front and back (kfb) will work here and the increases will be distributed across the row.
The direction in brackets is repeated 12 times. So the repeat is: kfb, k1. Keep working that across the row, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, kfb, k1, etc.
If you don’t like the little bump leftover from the kfb, work it this way:

Thank you, it seems i have much to learn x

You’re doing great. These are all things we learn with each new pattern and if we’re lucky, we keep on learning.
