Hi I am knitting a Mary maxim Two Toné Poncho. I’m stuck on Inc 8(12) sts space evenly. I don’t understand how to do that part. Help
I am sorry to be in a too big hurry to look up the exact pattern you are knitting but I will still try to help you in a way that allows you to solve this kind of problem regardless of pattern.
For example if you work in the rounds and you have 32 stitches from the beginning and you are supposed to increase 8 stitches evenly then you repeat all around: k4, m1 because 32/8=4. Sometimes it is not possible to get an integer when doing the division. Then you need to do the best about the situation to spread it evenly, for example repeating all around: K4, M1, K3, M1. If you google for knitting increase calculator you will find plenty of calculators doing the math for you.
I have a Mary Maxim pattern for a two tone poncho, pattern # 97016-7. I don’t understand when it say inc 8(12) sts space evenly. Try to understand what to do. How do I inc 8(12) sts space evenly?
From what you have said it seems the pattern is in two sizes so you either have to increase by 8 stitches or by 12 stitches. So, say your pattern has 48 stitches and you have to increase evenly by 8 stitches or 12 stitches you would divide 48 by 8 or 12 (giving you 6 or 4) and so you would increase every 6 stitches or every 4 stitches depending on if you are doing the first or second size. If the total number of stitches you have before the increase doesn’t give you an even number (for example 50 stitches) you increase to the nearest number.
