Hello, Can anyone please help this newbie get started? I’d like to start a simple blanket for my grandson and I really need HELP!!! i have only the basic of skills and I don’t know the terms for knitting at all. I was hoping that maybe someone could assist me. If you can please I’d really appreciate it.
I don’t know if this will help http://www.knittinghelp.com/videos/knitting-glossary these are the basic terms
Click on the Videos tab at the top and read ‘Getting Started.’ What pattern are you planning on using?

As princessbonniejane said you can find that info here at KH. Go to the top of the page and there are 2 tabs that will help. One is Glossary which has a listing of the common knitting terms and what they mean. The other tab is View Videos that has many videos that Amy has done showing how to do everything from a cast on to knit and purl stitches and many other things you may need to learn in order to progress in knitting and crochet skills.
Perhaps your public library has how-to books and videos. Ours has lots.
Have fun.
Sometimes having directions printed out and sitting next to you helps, too. Here’s a few if you need more than the videos.

[COLOR=DarkRed]I taught myself how to knit using this site! The videos are absolutely fantastic, when I am confused, I play the video over & over until I “get it” lol
As well, “google” knitting & you will be overwhelmed w/ideas & info!
Welcome to our world!

One easy way to make a blanket is by using circular needles and the basic dishcloth pattern. I’ve used this to make blankets from baby sized to ones large enough to fit on a bed. I normally use 2 strands of 4 ply yarn so it makes quite a warm blanket.
