In love with Starsky

Yesterday I found the pattern for a wonderful cardigan called Starsky over att knitty.com and I instantly fell in love!!!

The “extraspicy” label on it gave me a scare but I figured I could work out the pattern. Especially if someone else figured that they understood the different sections of the pattern.

Anybody else fall in love?

I’m going to be knitting at my LYS tonight and will talk to the owner about different yarns for it. Anything you guys think I should take into consideration when it comes to yarn for a cabled cardigan? Is a lighter colour better than a darker one? Will a soft yarn produce a sloppy cardigan? Anything?

Thanks in advance!

I know FiberGirl has fallen in love. I like it a lot, but I haven’t tried cables yet. Maybe this would be a good learning project. I see me in a brown version

Great to find others who have fallen in love with Starsky!

I’ve never done cables before either. I’m not particular fond of most cable patterns I see but this one was different; I love the shape of the banana leaves.

I was thinking a colour close to the one shown but am also bias to purples and blues. Or reds. Or… I’ll see what I end up with. For some reason I think the pattern will be more visible in a lighter shade of colour but I’m not sure.

Let me know if you decide on doing this! I’d feel good knowing someone else was trying out cables for the first time…

Maybe if enough people show interest, we can do it as a Knit A Long! :cheering:

Great idea! I’d love that.

That is definately on my to knit list! I absolutely  it!

Oooh, a Starsky KAL!

I love it too! Of course I’m not supposed to buy yarn for awhile, not until I have actually finished the other things I’m working on, so maybe I’ll just watch the KAL

Cables are really easy, Andrea! Do not fear them!

I’m reading this wondering if y’all are old enough to know why it’s called “Starsky”?

I am!! That was one of my favorite shows…I had crushes on Paul Michael Glaser and David Soul. Ahh, the 70s!!

 I only know cause of re-runs and my parents LOL…

I really loved this too and hoping maybe later this year I can work on it and have it for fall…

Ohhh yea I totally fell in love with it as well. But alas I am not allowed to buy anything knitting related for awhile, at least until hubbies sweater is all done. The Jodanna Paige bag kinda pushed him over the edge. So I am being a good girl for a while. If you all do a knit along I will probably be able to join up in a few months. Just in time for next winter.

I love it, too, but there’s no way I could make it. Besides, I’m also on a yarn diet. Perhaps after some of you finish it and work out all the problems for me, I’ll try it. :roflhard:

:roflhard: :roflhard:

I was thinking the same thing!

Cuz it’s the style of sweater the character Starky of Starsky and Hutch used to wear. It had some blue and soem other colors in it though. I went to Mexic on a camping trip and found one just like it. I wore that that thing EVERYwhere. (I also wore the blue sneakers with three white stripes and red stripe on the bottom) I       Paul Micheal Glaser. He’s from Newton, MA. That’s only a few miles away from where I lived as a kid. I used to troll the streets looking for him during the holidays hoping he’d be there visitng family  Hey I was 11, whaddaya expect

DH loved the car. Wouldn’t ya know, we had a blue Ford the same body about that time. :??

Don’t be afraid of the cables! Really. Cabling was one of the first things I tried when I learned to knit. If you can count, you can cable. Don’t let it stop you from making Starsky, which, like, totally rocks by the way!

I really like this as well. I hope to be able to knit it before next fall.

ooooooooooooh, I’d do a KAL! Keep us posted!

I think it would be a great first cable project. Although, I too have more yarn than I need. I still have to do the Hourglass sweater which I have bought yarn for. Maybe Starsky can wait until the winter :frowning:

oooh, brown sounds nice. Yeah, I’m loving this pattern. I have NO idea when I’d get to it tho…maybe later in the spring. I can do a cardigan for the summer b/c it gets so stinkin cold in my building at work.

I read that this got the extraspicy label b/c of juggling all the pieces of the pattern - doing the cable patterns in conjunction with the shaping and what not. I’m doing that to a certain extent with my current cardigan, but not nearly to the same degree. I’d have to create like a map or something to keep all that straight. But I think I’m up to the challenge! Now, what color?
