i put down my knitting projects for about 2 months and now when i knit i experience pretty extreme pain on the pads of my thumbs the lower part, the mushy skin part towards the palms of my hands. Am I doomed to never knit again…or is this just something I have to get used to again?

Any ‘knitting’ pain I’ve had, was in that pad at the base of my thumb. It was especially bad when I was knitting for hours on end, with small needles and yarn. I take more breaks now, and it’s almost back to normal. I would take it easy and build back your hands as Kelly said and don’t do too much at once.
