I’m trying the Momma’s Little Guy Vest pattern by Scarlet Taylor for Red Heart. I’m stuck at the front “Shape Armholes and Neck” and the “At the Same Time” part of the directions. It says to shape armholes like the back. The back says to BO for 6 rows. The “At Same Time” directions states to dec 1 st at neck every other row 2 times (I’m making the smallest size), then every 4th row 5 times — 8 sts each side. I created a diagram after ripping out several times. I must be misunderstanding something because the pattern doesn’t come out correctly.
What am I doing wrong?Welcome to the forum!
Are you working both sides at the same time? Then you can follow the directions for the back armholes as written.
If you’re only working one side, then you would only do half the armhole decreases called for on the back (half on each side). That means decreasing 2sts at the armhole edge on rows 1, 3 and 5 and then one stitch on row 7. Decrease one stitch at the neck edge on rows 1,3 and then rows 7,11,15,19 and 23. That’s a total of 14sts decreased leaving you with 8.
Thank you for helping me. I tried decrease both sides at the same time, but I still ran into the same problem. I’ll follow your directions to see if I can complete the vest. This is my first knit vest. I’ve knit blankets, scarves, and dishcloths. I’ll update my success ![]()
